Vanguard, one of the world's largest investment management companies and a recognized employer of choice, seeks an Event Marketing Manager that will lead Vanguard Canada's approach to client and employee conferences and events. Will be responsible for planning, developing, and implementing Event Marketing efforts that align to key business goals and help deliver the Vanguard message.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Partners with Sales and Channel Management to determine appropriate role for conferences/events in client strategies. Ensures all events link to client strategy or channel strategy objectives. Owns development of conference strategy, including attendance, key messages, appropriate speakers, determination of sponsorship level, event materials, set-up, follow-up, etc.

  • Contacts clients and/or conducts research into Advisor and Institutional Sales, Marketing, and other practices to understand business and client needs. Consults internally to convey findings and makes recommendations to Head of Marketing. Collaborates with the leaders of the business areas supporting all Sales activities.

  • Exhibits leadership by working with managers to provide strategic direction for clients through consultation and by providing recommendations and advice. Identifies opportunities for improvement and champions change; and provides strategic direction on the execution of conference and event initiatives.

  • Establishes and utilizes a conference evaluation framework. Leverages data collected via framework to guide decision-making on future conference participation. Consults with sales force, sales leadership, and channel management on event effectiveness.

  • Runs the annual event planning process, including maintaining the budget and calendar for planned and unplanned events. Reports to stakeholders on a regular basis.

  • Ensures follow-up activities (e.g., call lists delivered to internal sales desk, new data entered into Siebel CRM, client intelligence added to eConnect, competitor collateral delivered to Marketing) are completed within appropriate time frame.

  • Leverages process methodology (e.g., VUE) and project management tools (e.g., Agile) to improve conference planning and execution processes. Assures a streamlined, transparent workflow

  • Develops and maintains a broad knowledge and awareness of investment industry and regulatory and/or policy changes.

  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience required.

  • Minimum five years of general experience and five years of industry-related experience. Experience in Marketing preferred.

  • Ability to work independently with little direct supervision.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple project simultaneously.

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to think strategically.

  • Ability to interact with all levels of internal and external personnel including senior staff.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.

  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills.

  • Proficient in computer skills, specifically Microsoft applications (emphasis on Excel) and contact management databases.
